Hello from Adelaide,

It's a Friday! Who else is going away this weekend? This weekend, we're staying home and making the most of school holiday programs. If you've never checked them out, have a look at your local community libraries - they're full of great info and programs.

Are you planning a bigger, longer trip? Let's chat about the big lap concept...

Most people spend weeks and weeks, if not months and years, planning their Big Lap of Australia — their route — before they've sorted a single little thing out that really does actually matter. I've helped many families through the planning and excitement of their Big Lap, and it's the one thing I see in common, every time.

So today I want to walk you through the top things that really matter before you even think about your route.

Time frame first

How long can you actually go for? A week, a month, the full year? It doesn't matter what everyone else on the internet is doing. Your family is going to be different to our family and everybody else's family, so never compare your life to theirs.

It is possible to do the big lap in sections - that's what we're doing. Tailor it to your family.

Then your budget

Your time frame is going to determine your budget. I've got more on this coming in a future email — including our own daily number, and where our budget planner comes in handy for working this bit out.

Basically, if you're doing smaller trips it will be less expensive, however longer trips open up the possibility to rent your house out. Worth considering.

Quick heads up - the Budget Planner promotion ends on Monday, grab your copy now at $9 - you'll get lifetime updates and extra tools that will be launching soon :)

Quick word from our sponsors today:

Life admin, van setup, and route

Life admin is boring, but sort it months out — house, school, medical scripts. Then your van and setup — there's no right or wrong here, it's about what comfort level your family needs. And only then does your route come into it, because your time frame, your budget, your life admin and your van setup will all shape where you can realistically go.

Interestingly, the route is the one most people start with, and it's exactly why they get stuck - you can change the route to fit your budget if needed.

If you're wanting a bit more of a deep dive, I've written more about it here → How Do You Plan a Lap Around Australia?
