How are you?
Hi! From Yorke Peninsula, over here for a few days, enjoying the rain! :)
We've been deep in planning mode for the new van arriving in July โ which means lots of maps, lots of lists, and revisiting all the WA routes we love most. This one keeps coming up. We've driven Jurien Bay to Kalbarri many times, and every single time we find something different.
Jurien Bay to Kalbarri โ 380km of coastal magic
This stretch of WA coastline is one of those drives that sounds simple on paper but turns into days of exploring if you let it. And you should let it.
The quick version: it's 380km following the coastal road, just over 4 hours of drive time โ but only if you don't stop. And stopping is the whole point.
A few highlights we always make time for:
- Jurien Bay โ swim with the sea lions, walk the jetty, grab crayfish if you're feeling fancy. The turquoise water here never gets old.
- Northampton โ one of WA's oldest towns with heritage buildings and great lunch options before the final stretch north.
- Hutt Lagoon (Pink Lake) โ get the timing right on this one. Visit around midday when the sun is high and the pink really pops. First thing in the morning and it's not so bright.
- Kalbarri National Park โ Nature's Window, the Skywalk, Z Bend. Go early to beat the heat and the crowds. (Bring a fly net in summer!)
You can do it in a day, but we'd always recommend taking at least a few days. The inland route through wildflower country in spring is also worth considering if you want something a little different.
Accomodation
Accommodation along the way โ we always check Booking.com first. If you're looking to hire a van and try this stretch without your own rig, StarRV and Jucy are both worth a look.
How many days do you need?
You could do this drive in one day, but you'd be missing out on lots of amazing things along the way. I would suggest, at a minimum, over a weekend, but you could take a few weeks to really look into every little corner.
We did the drive over about 2 weeks, and we still need to go back to see everything!
Planning a trip and want to keep track of your budget?
One thing we always recommend is having a good handle on your travel costs before you go โ fuel, campsites, food, activities, it all adds up quickly! We put together a Travel Australia Spreadsheet that makes it really easy to plan and track everything in one place.
It's just $9, and we think it's one of the most useful things you can have open on your phone or laptop while you're on the road.

Skool is up and running!
For those who haven't heard of Skool (and that included me as of a few months ago...) Skool is a fantastic platform where we can organise all of our free resources, reply to comments, and have our other courses - all in the one place!
I've just finished uploading a 7 day challenge called " From Dream to Driveway" - 7 videos to help you choose your date to travel, how to start organising everything to get your plan in motion, and much more!
โCheck it out here and come and say hi :) โ
Have a great week
Margie & Tim
PS, here is a view of the spreadsheet if you're wondering what it's all about:
