How are you?

Yorke Peninsula must be one of our most visited locations. We live in Adelaide, so it's a quick weekend trip to do some camping before our new caravan arrives. If you're interested in hearing more about that, click here and I can add you to our caravan emails.

The kids love the water park at Moonta - so much so, we've been known to drive there just for the day (before the fuel prices went slightly crazy!)

We love the open spaces, great wineries, cafes and national parks - it has everything!

(PS. book now as the popular dates start to book up quickly!)

Why Yorke Peninsula?

There is so much to see and do here. Whether you're after wild coastline, local food and wine, history, beaches you can actually drive on, or a national park at the very tip of the peninsula - it has it all.

Although a day trip can work, it is highly recommended to stay for at least a weekend. Ideally a few days to explore a few different locations.

For the outdoor lovers

Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park is located at the tip of the Yorke Peninsula, about three hours from Adelaide. The majority of the park is accessible with a 2WD car.

In the warmer months there are plenty of swimmable beaches — just be sure to read the signs at each one before jumping in, as some have strong currents. In winter, you'll find wild seas, lush green views and an abundance of wildlife.

If you don't have a caravan or not keen on the tent, hire a StarRV for the weekend to really explore off grid.

For families

The Moonta Mines tourist train departs near the Moonta Mines Museum and takes you on a historical journey around the local mine. It's fully interactive for kids of all ages — there's a hunt for animal statues throughout the journey to keep everyone engaged.

And don't miss the Moonta Mines Sweet Shop on Verran Terrace. It's volunteer run, has all the usual favourites plus some treats you won't find in a modern lolly shop. It makes it even more special to splash out and treat yourself!

One tip before you go

If you're visiting in summer, plan mid-week, where you can — it's the least busy. And if you're heading to Innes National Park, there's a small vehicle entry fee payable online before you arrive. Winter is a lovely time to visit. Yes it's cooler, so rug up, but the crowds are down and the colours are an amazing shade of greens.

Accommodation books up fast over summer and school holidays — worth looking sooner rather than later.

Planning a trip and want to keep track of your budget?

One thing we always recommend is having a good handle on your travel costs before you go — fuel, campsites, food, activities, it all adds up quickly! We put together a Travel Australia Spreadsheet that makes it really easy to plan and track everything in one place.

It's just $9, and we think it's one of the most useful things you can have open on your phone or laptop while you're on the road.

If you're looking to explore Yorkes in a camper, but don't have your own, we recommend StarRV for some fancy luxury while being in nature.

Have a great week
