Adding Awning Walls

Most awnings have a built-in sail-track on the outer edge, a groove either 6mm or 4mm wide that your awning wall slides straight into.

Cassette-type awnings have it built into the outer edge frame, roll-out types have it built into the outer roll, visible once the awning's rolled all the way out.

It makes putting the walls up, and taking them down, really simple, but there are a few tricks to getting the most out of your awning.

Peg It Down Properly

An unpegged awning wall can turn into a giant kite in the wind, so always peg it down. Straight down gives you more strength but catches more wind, pegging at an angle gives a bit more room underneath and deflects the wind better.

If you peg it down securely you could skip the guy-ropes altogether, but we always keep them on as backup.

Getting the Size Right

There are three things to get right: width, height and sail-track size.

Match the wall width to your awning's width (too long and you'll get flapping material that can't be tied down properly), decide whether you want a gap under the wall or to run it flush with the ground, and check your sail-track size before you buy, most run either 6mm or 4mm.
