FAQ: What do I need to keep my van a/c running offgrid?

Hey Reader

If you've been to most places in Australia this past week, you'll know it's been HOT. Like, off the chart hot! Where I am in Adelaide reached 43.6 degrees today!

We've had a few of you ask how we manage to keep cool when we're camping off-grid without access to powered sites. So we thought we'd share what works for us...

It all comes down to your electrical setup.

To run anything that draws heaps of power, such as the air conditioner, you need to understand how your 12V and 240V systems work together.

If you're not sure where to start, Tim's broken it all down in plain English here:

Our top tip for summer?

Boost your solar charging capacity. Your roof-mounted panels are great, but when you're running high-draw appliances in extreme heat, a portable solar blanket can be a game-changer. Remember that as the temperature increases, solar panel efficiency actually decreases.

We like this 200W solar blanket from My Generator—it's lightweight, folds up small, and gives your batteries that extra kick when you need it most:

Stay cool out there, stay safe and make sure you bring lots of extra water.

Catch you next week!
