How are you?

We've been finding all the cool hikes and walks around Adelaide over the past few weeks - passing the time until our new van arrives sometime this month. Looking forward to some camping again soon!

We'll be filming the handover, so if you're on the hunt for a new van, it will be a bit of a heads-up for you - and some of the questions to ask.

DIY maintenance?

How about a bit of caravan TLC? With winter here and fewer sun hours, it might be time to think if a generator is necessary for your set-up.

Tim has written a heap of great info in this blog about the best generator for your setup.

The bits that cost nothing but save a fortune

Tyre pressure is one of the easiest things to check and one of the most overlooked. Wrong pressures cause extra wear, affect how your van tows, and put you at risk on the road — yet all it takes is a tyre pressure gauge and two minutes. While you're down there, check the tread depth indicators (the little bumps inside the grooves) and don't forget the spare.

Give your jockey wheel some love

It carries the full weight of your van every time you hitch up, and most people never give it a second thought. A quick spray of lubricant on the winding mechanism, wheel and swing-up joint is all it takes to keep it moving freely.

The inside jobs that are easier than you think

Dusty DRS filter, clogged air-con filter, an overworked water filter — none of these take more than a few minutes to clean or replace, and the difference is noticeable immediately. Even the toilet slide mechanism (yes, really) can be brought back to life with a partial dismantle, a clean, and a squirt of silicone spray. Gloves on, of course :)
